Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to make a return to the first team fold against underdogs Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

Frozen out of first team by United boss Jose Mourinho in recent weeks, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is due to be given a starting berth in the midweek clash against Bristol City.

Despite a blistering start to the season, which included 5 assists in 3 games, Mkhitaryan has failed to even make the bench in 8 out of 9 of United’s last games.

After a series of underwhelming performances, Armenian international Mkhitaryan was subsequently dropped from the first team, with Portuguese boss Mourinho preferring Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as his attacking options.

Former Borussia Dortmund attacker Mkhitaryan will certainly need to give his all if he’s to quash any rumours of an exit – tomorrow seems to be his best chance, with the January transfer window right around the corner.

Will he prove his worth to Mourinho, or will he be pushed further towards the exit door? Watch United live on Wednesday 19th December on Sky Sports at 8pm
